Daycatcher

The hours are made of liquid glass
they scratch your skin like brittle grass
and bugs get trapped inside them.
They may evaporate like gas;
though days consist of greater mass
still often I can’t find them.
Daycatcher
Catch me a day
Catch me a moment
I’m willing to pay
Why do you never share what you take away
Nothing will remain
And no one ever stays the same
As water in a stream erodes
The rocks and cliffs through which it flows
And leaves a path behind it
So blood erodes while it sustains
A looping pass throughout the veins
’til finally it unwinds it.

All Your Blood

All thoughts are either true or false. Which one depends on you.
Time for building memories; either one will do
You manifest reality by acting how you feel
Who you are is what you did, even if it wasn’t real
Even if it wasn’t real
(Even if it wasn’t real)
All your blood flows to the sea
Where you get emptied
Into who you think you want to be
Then that blood gets pulled to different veins
In different bodies
Until none of what you were remains
Whatever inconsistencies you made your life about
That’s up to anyone who cares enough to figure out.
Every single move you made: too late to make anew
You’ve said your piece; now rest in peace. Nothing else is up to you
Nothing else is up to you
(Nothing else is up to you)
All your blood flows to the sea
Where you get emptied
Into who you think you want to be
Then that blood gets pulled to different veins
In different bodies
Until none of what you were remains
All the words you wrote in stone (or some admirer made)
No matter what you paid the mason, even those will fade
A shadow of a shadow of a shadow—nothing more.
What’s left, you wouldn’t recogniz e. What was any of it for?
What was any of it for?
(What was any of it for?)
All your blood flows to the sea
Where you get emptied
Into who you think you want to be
Then that blood gets pulled to different veins
In different bodies
Until none of what you were remains

Gone

Keep your bread for baking
No one wants to eat it anymore
Don’t you understand what people want?
We’ve moved on from things that taste so poor.
Where did you put your silver spoon?
You’ll starve unless you find it soon
It’s gone
Keep your fires for burning
No one wants to be warmed anymore
And in the halls, the sleeping
Cling to walls behind every door
You’ll have to make your own bed tonight
Be sure to turn out the light
She’s gone
Keep your songs for singing
No one wants to hear them anymore
All your little treasures
We don’t even know what they’re for
Burn all your diaries and destroy your souvenirs
They leave no meaning behind you
Even when
You’re gone
